Il cappuccino svizzero Oktavian Schmucki è reputato uno dei più importanti ricercatori di Francesco degli ultimi 50 anni. Il 3 gennaio scorso, giovedì, nel convento di Wesemlin a Lucerna, è stato presentato un volume di oltre 500 pagine che raccoglie una scelta dei suoi lavori e che ha il titolo “Beiträge zur Franziskusforschung”. Questo è appunto il semplice titolo della raccolta di articoli, che amici di Oktavian Schmucki hanno pubblicato in occasione dei suoi 80 anni. L’opera renderà più facilmente accessibili ad un più vasto pubblico alcuni dei suoi ben fondati studi, attualmente sparsi un po’ dovunque.

“Cristiana sobrietà”

Lo storico della Chiesa di Tubinga, l’evangelico Ulrich Köpf, uno degli editori della raccolta, riconosce in fr. Oktavian Schmucki il ricercatore che applica il metodo storico-critico per “evidenziare il contenuto essenziale spogliandolo dei rivestimenti letterari”. Le sue ricerche che riguardano la storia della devozione sono caratterizzate da un profondo amore alla verità storica e da cristiana sobrietà. Köpf sottolinea alcuni titoli che si trovano nella raccolta, incominciando dallo studio “La Passione di Cristo nella vita di San Francesco d’Assisi” fino ad una trattazione delle stimmate del Santo.

Il secondo editore, il cappuccino tedesco Leonhard Lehmann, professore di spiritualità francescana a Roma e superiore dell’Istituto Storico dell’Ordine, ha altamente apprezzato i contributi di fr. Oktavian all’opera di ricerca dei cappuccini. Il lavoro di Oktavian ha avuto il suo culmine nell’elaborazione di una bibliografia - di più di mille pagine - di san Fedele da Sigmaringa.

Visibilmente commosso, Oktavian Schmucki ha ringraziato gli ospiti ( più di 80 ) del vernissage. Un grazie particolare ha rivolto ai suoi fratelli presenti. Dedicandosi al loro lavoro dopo la scuola, gli hanno reso possibile lo studio come fratello maggiore della famiglia.

The Swiss Capuchin, Br. Oktavian Schmucki, is one of the more important Franciscan research scholars of the past 50 years. A collection of his writings, in a 500 page volume, was introduced on January 3rd, 2008 at the friary of Wesemlin in Lucerne, Switzerland under the title "Beiträge zur Franziskusforschung". Actually, this is the simple title of a collection of articles written by some scholarly friends of Oktavian Schmucki on the occasion of his 80th birthday. This work will render the Schmucki writings more accessible to the public.

 

"Christian Sobriety"

The church historian from the University of Tübingen, the Evangelical Professor, Ulrich Köpf, one of the editors of the collection, recognizes in Br. Oktavian Schmucki the researcher who applies the historical-critical method in order "to bring to light the essential content wrapped in various literary coverings". His researched writings, which concern the history of devotion, are characterized by a deep love for historical truth and for Christian sobriety. Köpf highlights some of the titles, which are found in the collection, beginning with the study of "the Passion of Christ in the life of Saint Francis of Assisi" and ending with a treatise on the Stigmata of the saint.

The second editor, the German Capuchin, Br. Leonhard Lehmann, a university professor of Franciscan Spirituality in Rome and the President of the Historical Institute of the Order also in Rome, expressed a deep appreciation for the contributions of his confrere, Br. Oktavian, to the field of research by Capuchins. The research work of Schmucki reached its apex in the elaboration of one bibliography – containing more than one thousand pages – on the life of Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringa.

Visibly moved, Br. Oktavian Schmucki, expressed his gratitude for the more than 80 guests who had graced the occasion. He had words of particular appreciation for his Capuchin confreres who had come. For, it is they that allowed him to dedicate himself to his scholarly research for over 50 years.
